When researching marketing videos they need to be viewed with a critical eye particularly looking at the content - is it interesting ? does it hold your attention ? does it sell you anything?

M: Just a career talk about what building surveyors do, no use to general public. Lots of different photographs/videos of buildings.

JN: A good, concise video, giving explanation of different types of surveyors, like the fact it uses different surveyors telling their stories. Sells the job of being a surveyor very well. It explains why a pre-purchase residential building survey is necessary as it’s such a large investment.
Also the fact that with a commercial lease the landlord and tenant have different requirements – tenant will want to know what their obligations are likely to be with the lease. Good use of logos, websites & email address

T: Catchy music. Easily explains the different skills of a Chartered Building Surveyor against a Quantity surveyor. Like the use of the term 'building doctor'. Gives a good overview of what a Chartered Surveyor does and how different each day can be. Like the fact the surveyors appear on video with their names shown (you know they are real people)

M: Elitist, not relatable to general public, Good if you are trying to buy an exclusive property in London, Felt like a very long video but doesn’t show how many minutes. I like that he said good luck with property search at the end.

JN: I found the video dull and not very well edited and video did not flow very well. Appeared too over confident - it would put me off. The video background is dark and dreary. It’s too long and I lost interest really quickly.

T: Felt he was a very boring person to listen to. It sounded very scripted and unnatural. It got the message across that estate agents do not work for the buyer and the fact that they have sales and even viewing targets to meet but felt he spoke too much about him. The only positive was the free guide they offer

M: Too long, too general and rambling. Mostly advertising his TV programmes and MoveIQ. When I looked at his MoveIQ website he has a strap-line across the bottom giving advice about Covid-19 and getting people to subscribe/leave their email address. This is a way of capturing people that are going to move in the future when Covid-19 is over.

JN: This video had a good title. I love propery programmes and therefore I personally found it very interesting. However, I suspect that at 12 minutes many people would find it far too long and the fact it only has 433 views is very telling.

T: Interesting info about Phil Spencer, unaware he was a qualified CS. Nice to know how he met Kirsty. An interesting lovely man to listen to

M: My perception is a miss match between the target audience and the presenter. Couldn’t bear to watch the whole video! Think Chateau lady is only getting hits because the TV programme is popular.

JN: This one may be the most popular with 29K views, however personally I found it 100% boring! I was bored immediately and found the presenter far too smiley! I have absolutely no interest in her chateau or her parcels! I wanted to turn it off before she’d even opened the first parcel (1.39), but I persevered until she'd opened a few more. A bit over the top cringy when opening the parcels.
At 17.16 it is ridiculously too long!

T: Very enthusiastic lady. Quite annoying at times and far too long
