What are Victorian Houses?

Property built during the Victorian era, means anything constructed during the lifespan of Queen Victoria and anything similar style beyond.

During the late Victorian era it was the time when the railway system started to transport building materials across the country, using Welsh slate found amongst other materials, rather than us using solely local/vernacular materials.

The original Victorian property would have been built with what we would term as softer materials, with the bricks for example being bedded in lime mortar and typically they are solid walls although the introduction of early cavity walls took place in the latter part of the Victorian era.

The buildings would have had timber windows that were frequently sliding sash windows, which now have often been replaced with plastic of various different standards.

Heating in years gone by, would have been via coal fires and as such Victorian properties have chimneys and often had/have coal storage to the rear; many/most of these have been now been converted to extend the habitable areas of the property.
