Q: How many types of survey are available?

There are two types of surveys - the Home Buyers Report and the Residential Building Survey (this used to be called the structural survey)

The Home Buyers Report is for modern properties that haven't been altered or are around the 30 to 40 years old mark.   Some surveying companies carry out home buyer reports on properties that are over 100 years old.  We don't recommend this.

The Residential Building Survey can suit whatever property you wish.

Some people become confused with there being three types of surveys - including the valuation to be the third one.   This is not the case, the valuation that the lending association carry out some people become confused by (the Bankers and Building Society's carry these out) it is not a building survey it is purely a valuation for lending purposes.
